Amazon gets two weeks to reply to plea in Competition Commission of India

The Supreme Court on Monday gave two weeks to Amazon to file its response to a petition filed by a promoter firm of Future Retail in the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
While dismissing a bunch of challenges raised by Amazon against the recent order of the CCI, the top court said that a consumer could get a refund of the amount spent on the product and if he or she is not satisfied, he or she can take the product back.
“If the consumers are not satisfied with the product, they can go back to the seller and take back the product,” the apex court said.
On August 22, the CCI had directed Amazon to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000 for misleading consumers by making it appear that it was not being charged any delivery fee.

The company has challenged this order in the Supreme Court. Amazon India, however, on August 25 moved the apex court seeking to put a stay on the CCI’s order.
Amazon claimed that the watchdog body has not complied with rules to seek comments on the application.
“In this regard, Amazon India has moved the Supreme Court seeking to put a stay on the CCI’s order dated August 22, 2019, in order to permit Amazon India to file the response,” the company said in the court filing
